Fire rated doors are an essential part of your system security, protecting your employees and assets from fire and giving your staff time to evacuate the building. Even after evacuation the doors must continue to control smoke and fire to protect valuable assets.
The US Fire Administration (USFA) reported that in 2011 there were 1,389,500 fires resulting in 3005 deaths and 17,500 injuries – the estimated financial losses being a dramatic $11.7 billion.
Fire Doors must serve four main functions:
- Act as a regular door
- Allow easy escape from a fire zone
- Inhibit the fire from spreading throughout the building or to an adjacent building
- Protect life and property by reducing smoke hazards
